Accommodation

Opening Hours

Armadale Castle, Gardens and the Museum of the Isles are open daily from 9.30am to 5pm, with last entry at 4.30pm. The Stables Café is open daily from 9.30am to 4pm, and the bar is open Friday to Sunday from 4pm, with last orders at 11.30pm. In bad weather, please check our social media for any last-minute changes.

Admission

Tickets are sold at Ticket Office, so there's no need to book ahead. Day passes are available, as well as Season passes and Family Passes. Season pass holders will receive 10% off in the Stables Café and our gift shop.

Useful Information

  • What’s on offer? 40 acres of gardens, a castle ruin, woodland trails and The Museum of the Isles, plus a café, bar, gift shop and adventure playground.

  • Food and drink: Stop for breakfast, lunch or a snack at the Stables Café, or a drink in our bar.

  • Shop: Our gift shop is in the Ticket Office, with a wide range of gifts and souvenirs.

  • Museum Shop: Heritage pieces and clan-inspired accessories.

  • Walking trails: Beyond the gardens, there are several miles of walking trails to explore. Maps are available at the Ticket Office. Please note the Red Trail loop in and out of the Gardens is currently closed.

How to get to the Isle of Skye

Driving

From the mainland


Cross the Skye Bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh and we're about 20 miles away (roughly 30 minutes) on the A87 and A851. Or take the 25-minute car ferry from Mallaig, which lands in Armadale just a 2-minute drive from our entrance.


From north Skye



We're 16 miles south of Broadford, about 25 minutes' drive. Follow signs for Broadford and the Skye Bridge, then turn right onto the A851, signposted Armadale/Ferry. There's a large free car park when you arrive.

Train, Bus & Cycle

Trains run from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, and from Glasgow to Mallaig via Fort William. Citylink runs national bus services to both Kyle of Lochalsh and Mallaig, and local Stagecoach buses connect with some trains and ferries. Rural services are limited, so check timetables before you travel. The Traveline website is the easiest way to plan your journey.

Taxis are available in Kyle of Lochalsh and Armadale, but need to be booked in advance.

Cyclists are very welcome, and there are bike racks in the car park.

Ferry

CalMac Ferries run the 25-minute crossing from Mallaig to Armadale. From the ferry terminal, the Castle entrance is about a 10-minute walk or a 2-minute drive.

Accessibility

We want everyone to enjoy Armadale, and our staff are always happy to help.

There are three disabled parking bays near the entrance, between the Stables Café and the ticket office, and the ticket office team can arrange extra spaces if needed. You'll find accessible toilets in the Museum and The Stables.

All our indoor facilities (the Museum, ticket office, shop and Stables Café) are on one level. The main routes through the Gardens are wheelchair and pushchair friendly, with seating along the way, and staff can talk you through the best accessible routes when you arrive.

Disabled visitors receive concession tickets, and carers go free.

Dogs are welcome in the Gardens on a lead, and assistance dogs are welcome everywhere, including the Museum.

Families

Families are always welcome at Armadale, with plenty of space for kids to run around and lots to do.

The main routes through the Gardens are pushchair friendly, and you'll be given a map of accessible routes at the ticket office. There are baby changing facilities in the Museum and The Stables.

Kids can let off steam in our adventure playground, which has a picnic area alongside. Inside the Museum, kids can grab an object-hunt sheet to see how many artefacts can spot, then try on a costume in our dress-up area.

Please note there are unfenced ponds and uneven ground in the Gardens, so keep a close eye on young children.
